Description
On April Fool’s Day 1997 a group of artists in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius declared the city’s bohemian quarter an independent Republic called Uzupis. They have an army of approximately 12 man. Shortly afterwards, four national flags were designed (one for each season) and a constitution was written, which included the articles, ‘People have the right to be happy’ coupled with ‘People have the right to be unhappy’. On this wall You can read the constitution in 20 languages. Untill today the state remains a glorious vindication of the absurd. Copyright by Rudi Prott, Munich.
