Description
The Three Crosses monument on the bleak hill northeast of Vilnius old town has a long history. In 1636 three wooden crosses were erected as memorial for three Franciscan friars who were killed in the 14th century by pagans. The second version from 1916 was destroyed by the Soviets in 1950. This third monument was built in context with the Lithuanian independence in 1989 of concrete. Copyright by Rudi Prott, Munich.
