Description
The Munich Olympiapark was built for the summer games in 1972. In former days it was a little airfield called Oberwiesenfeld. After WW II there remained a mountain of rubble which is now the Olympic Mountain-
Designed by the architect Behnisch and the engineer Otto the lightweight tent construction of the main olympic venues was considered revolutionary in the late 60s. This included large sweeping canopies of acrylic glass stabilized by steel cables that were used for the first time on a large scale. The idea was to imitate the nearby Alps.
