Description
Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy. It is known as the Fat City for its rich cuisine, and the Red City for its Spanish-style red tiled rooftops. It is also home to the oldest university in the world (established in 1088 AD).
Originally Etruscan, the city has been an important urban center and later it was among the largest European cities by population. Famous for its towers, churches and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical centre, thanks to a careful restoration and conservation policy which began at the end of the 1970s. In 2021 UNESCO recognized the lengthy porticoes of the city as a World Heritage Site.
This is the famous Torre Asinelli from medieval times. From 20 still existing towers the Torre Asinelli is the highest and You can climb the 498 steps when You register in time. The towers are leaning, but not as much as You may imagine in this distorted image. The Asinelli Tower was also the tallest structure in the world until it was surpassed 1197.
