The medieval town of Goslar on the slopes of the Harz mountains has a long history. From 1009 to 1253 it was one of the courts of the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. One of the reasons was the discovery of silver in the 10th century in the nearby Rammelsberg mountain.
The old town of Goslar with it's many framed houses and the Rammelsberg ore mine are an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
