Maria Laach (Saint Mary's at the Lake) is a very old abbey built from 1093 to the 13th century in romanic style. Later gothic and baroque elements were added. It is situated in the so called volcanic Eifel south of Cologne. In WW II it was the hiding place of Cologne's from the Nazis displaced mayor Konrad Adenauer the later first chancellor of Germany.
The area is the last volcanic area in central Europe with heavy eruptions 13,000 years ago. The many little circular lakes are volcanic slots. The area is also well known for it's famous Formula 1 race track Nuerburgring.

I started photographing when I was 16 years old. In the beginning I set the focus to soccer. Four years later I made the photos for the local soccer team and the local newspaper. After having finished my university studies I started traveling. Photographing nature and sometimes city views replaced the soccer engagement. In the 90s I had two exhibitions in the rooms of a Life Insurance in Munich (Carnevale di Venezia and Nepal). The Venice images where used by a big pre press company for a calendar. For 2012 I published my first own calendar about World Heritage Sites of Nature.
