Description
Stolzenfels Castle is a former medieval fortress castle turned into a palace. It is situated north of the city Koblenz on the left bank of the Rhine river in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Stolzenfels was a ruined 13th-century castle, gifted to the Prussian Crownprince Friedrich Wilhelm in 1823. He rebuilt it as a 19th-century palace in Gothic Revival style, often called Rhine Romantic. Today it is (like some other 40 castles) part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
