Description
Even when the lion often is called the king of the animals, in strength and majestic charisma the tiger seems to be the real king. Most of the endangered big cats are at home in the Indian jungle and in Siberia. The wild population went down dramatically to between 3000 and 4000 individuals.
The tiger is among the most recognisable and popular of the world's mammals. It featured prominently in the ancient mythology and folklore of cultures throughout its historic range and even in modern films and literature. Like the lion they appear on many flags, coats of arms and as national animal of India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and South Korea.
