Description
The Bergpark (mountain park) Wilhelmshoehe of Kassel is Germanys entry to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 2013. From a Hercules statue the famous waterways start their way descending a long hill through the baroque garden with cascades, waterfalls, roman ruins, fountains and rapids. It was built by Landgrave Carl of Hessen-Kassel in 1689 and was developed further into the 19th century. Reservoirs and channels behind the Hercules supply water to a complex system of hydro-pneumatic devices. The romantic garden was created in the 18th century by Carls great-grandson, Elector Wilhelm I. Copyright by Rudi Prott, Munich.
