Description
The Bergpark (mountain park) Wilhelmshoehe of Kassel is Germanys entry to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 2013. This Hercules statue is the top point of the park where the famous waterways start their way descending a long hill through the baroque garden with cascades, waterfalls, roman ruins, fountains and rapids. It was built by Landgrave Carl of Hessen-Kassel in 1689 and was developed further into the 19th century. Reservoirs and channels behind the Hercules supply water to a complex system of hydro-pneumatic devices. The romantic garden was created in the 18th century by Carls great-grandson, Elector Wilhelm I. Copyright by Rudi Prott, Munich.
