Description
The famous cathedral (in the background) and Great Saint Martin are the two eye-catching buildings in the Cologne city silhouette seen from the bridges and the other side of the Rhine river.
The cathedral (Klner Dom) is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gothic church was one of the highest buildings for centuries. It is famous for it's many wonderful painted windows and the sarcophagus of the three Magi.
Great Saint Martin is one of the twelve romanic churches in the city of Cologne. It was built in the 12th century as basilica of a former Benedictine monastery. It was badly damaged in WW II but rebuilt afterwards. The name great is used because there is a second church dedicated to Saint Martin in Cologne.
