Description
Xanten is a little town at the lower Rhine river in Germany close to the Dutch border. The town has a rich history starting as a Roman harbour called Colonia Ulpia Traiana in the year 110 AD. The Archaeological Park is one of the largest archaeological open air museums in the world.
The Saint Victor's Cathedral in the medieval center of the town is called a cathedral, but it has never been the seat of a bishop. Officially it is a minor basilica. The cornerstone of the cathedral was laid in 1263. The construction lasted 281 years and was finally finished in the year 1544.
This is the main part of one of the wonderful stained glass windows, the so called cross carrier window with a silhouette of Jerusalem.
